Friday’s Gallery Opening at the SteamPlant features “High Point: The Art of Showing Horses”
The SteamPlant Paquette Gallery will feature “High Point: The Art of Showing Horses” for the month of March. The opening reception of the show is Friday, March 7, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the SteamPlant Paquette Gallery, 220 W. Sackett Ave in Salida.
The reception will feature a silent auction for the piece titled “Plenty.” All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Colorado Horsecare Foodbank.
Also scheduled for the evening will be a talk by the Horsecare Foodbank’s founder Juliana Lehman; interactive arts for attendees to explore 2014, the Year of the Horse, including zhezhi/origami and zen painting; door prizes; Chinese and ‘barn-themed’ food for horses and their humans; music; wine; and the opportunity to view and discuss cutting edge art.
The show includes 34 paintings, 4 found-object sculptures, and a variety of cards and monoprints.
The show is part of a yearlong traveling art show put on by watercolorists Barb Haynie and Cheri Isgreen. The show’s purpose is to raise awareness for the Colorado Horsecare Foodbank (CHF), nurture interest and excitement in equine art, and provide a rich cultural experience for the community.
With the Black Forest and numerous other Colorado wildfires, the subsequent flooding affecting residents in Boulder, El Paso, Larimer and Weld Counties, it has been a challenging year for horses and their humans. CHF is a 501(c)3 foundation that has helped countless horses and their families during recent emergencies.
