
Creative Monday May 5th & A Special Creative Thursday May 22nd
The Salida Creative District will host a Creative Monday on May 5, 2014 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the SteamPlant, 220 W. Sackett Ave. The Creative Monday focuses on funding ideas and creative relationship building. This will be the last Creative Monday of the season, before a summer hiatus for the months of June, July and August. Additionally, the Salida Creative District will host a Special Creative Thursday on May 22nd from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the SteamPlant. The Special Creative Thursday workshop will be taught by David Griggs and will focus on public art.
The Creative Monday on May 5th is titled: “Creative Hustle: Funding Ideas & Concepts to Help Your Business Thrive.” Susan Lander & McCarson Jones will teach this informative class filled with tips on how to maximize your earning potential. Susan Lander and McCarson Jones are two self-employed entrepreneurs based in Durango. Susan is the owner of Lander & Associates, LLC and McCarson owns Red Scarf Shots. The class will cover creative relationship building, collaborative funding efforts as well as micro-loans, small business conferences, media strategies and other tips.

The Special Creative Thursday is titled “Going Public: Getting a Jump-Start in Public Art.” David Griggs will lead this workshop about submittals and proposals for public art competitions. Directed towards artists who want to jump-start their public art careers, this class will be filled with information to improve your odds in the highly competitive public art world. The workshop will review basic submittal approaches and proposal strategies that can be customized for individual artists. David Griggs is a self-employed artist who graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with an M.F.A. in Fine Arts. With over 50 commissioned works of art, he has also consulted for Denver Housing Authority, Lowry Redevelopment, and the integration of artwork into Denver’s Light Rail system.

The Salida Creative District was formed to support the ongoing economic growth in Salida and to create a climate in which creatives and creative enterprises can thrive. Keeping with this mission, the Salida Creative District created the free Creative Mondays business education class series, held the first Monday of the month since October 2013. Featured topics have ranged from business plans to marketing and website development; the focus is on teaching business and marketing skills to help businesses thrive and grow.
