Colorado Creative Industries Summit in Salida will feature locally sourced food
The Colorado Creative Industries (CCI) Summit in Salida May 1-2, 2014 will feature locally sourced food as part of its menu for the Summit. The City of Salida received a $3,000 sponsorship from the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) Heritage and Agritourism Program to celebrate the rich agricultural offering of the region. The sponsorship allowed the City of Salida to request a minimum of 20% of the total food for the Summit be from local sources. Happily, the City ended up receiving a bid with much more than 20% of the total food locally sourced.
The winning proposal for the Summit meals was submitted by Kalamatapit Catering of Salida. Kalamatapit Catering will provide local food from Chaffee County including Elevation Beer Company, Post Office Ranch in Poncha Springs, Ploughboy, The Morgan Center in Poncha Springs, Fernandez in Alamosa, Hooper Hothouses, Adobe Mills in Dove Creek, Vino Salida, Tilapia Farm in Canon City, Fairplay Horseradish, Jumpin Good Goat Dairy, Salida Bread Company, Don’t Go Nuts and Beyond the Hive. Many dishes have locally sourced ingredients (including spices) and will be made locally by Kalamatapit.
The CTO Heritage and Agritourism Program celebrates Colorado’s agriculture roots and rich cultural heritage. This innovative concept creates unique and authentic opportunities for visitors to step off the beaten path and engage in a myriad of culinary, heritage and agricultural offerings.

“Located in the heart of the Rockies, Salida is rich in cultural heritage and agriculture,” said Al White, director of the Colorado Tourism Office. “A visit to Salida and the South Central region promises some of the area’s finest locally grown, raised, crafted and lovingly made Colorado products.”
The City of Salida anticipates that those attending the Summit will enjoy the wonderful local food that Chaffee County has to offer because of the unique sponsorship opportunity that made this possible.
