Salida Creative District is a state designation administered by Salida's Arts and Culture Department.

Are you curious to know what some of Salida's photographers will be up to during the eclipse? We were, and are so thankful, Chris Eaton, Ivy Bencheck, and Jon Resnick took time to share. Enjoy!Photo 1:Nature and landscape photographer and owner of Sage Mountain Gallery, Chris Eaton's plans for the eclipse are "to do a time lapse of it in Arches National Park while there working on a project for Moab Travel. Hopefully, I will be able to capture it looking up through an arch or other geologic formation." Photo from a previous eclipse taken in the Southwest.Photo 2:Ivy Bencheck, portrait photographer @ivybencheckportraits "will be on a rafting trip and plans to attempt to capture it while on the boat using a 70-200mm lens with a Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter and Solar Eclipse eye protection as well and placing the camera on a tripod hoping to capture a beautiful timelapse with multiple images stacked together... and hopes to show the phases of the total eclipse if all goes to plan!"Photo 3 and 4:Photographer and backcountry guide Jon Resnick "will be on a hut trip nearby and as we're not in the zone of totality, will likely get a couple photos of 'the sliver." Of the eclipse he viewed in 2017, "It is certainly an otherworldly type of event to witness...essentially a sunset, then darkness, then sunrise in the middle of the day is quite astounding. You can see that animals are bewildered by it as well. It's a sight to behold!" Gear-wise, Jon uses a solar filter, "which is very, very dark (16 stops of light) so that you can safely capture the sun."#salidacolorado #eclipse #coloradophotographer ... See MoreSee Less

We stopped in for a visit with artist Steph Brady of The Green Cat Gallery recently. Started in the 90's by Steph and Joe Brady, it is one of Salida's longest running galleries. We were thrilled to be treated to a tour of the historic studio building and an up- close look at her numerous projects in the works such as glass cuttings, beautiful new paintings for Amica's, and giclée pieces on archival paper. The gallery will be closed for about a month as she takes some time to get ready for summer. Expect new work such as glass windows, colorful paintings, whimsical t-shirts, jewelry and of course beautiful carvings of stone and wood by Joe. Thank you, Steph!#localartists #OG #thegreencatgallery #salidacolorado #salidacreativedistrict ... See MoreSee Less
